Sump Pumps

Do I need a sump pump?

If your basement experiences flooding from water entering beneath the foundation slab, a sump pump is necessary. Any French drain system installation also requires a sump pump to function properly.

Sump pumps can also be installed as a precautionary measure, providing protection against unexpected water intrusion. While they cannot guarantee that flooding will never occur, they prevent water from rising above the basement floor, minimizing damage and keeping your basement dry.

A battery backup sump pump is a secondary system designed to work alongside your primary AC sump pump. It runs on a 12-volt deep cycle marine battery and is activated automatically if the primary pump fails or if there is a power outage.

Key features:

  • The backup system is never intended as a primary pump — it is strictly a safeguard.
  • All battery backups are wired to a charger connected to your home’s AC power, ensuring the battery is fully charged and ready when needed.
  • Most systems include an alarm to alert you when the backup has activated.

Why you might need one:

  • If your home has a consistent high water table and you frequently experience power outages, a battery backup is highly recommended.
  • Many homeowners underestimate the volume of water during storms; small units pumping 119 GPH are often insufficient. We recommend a system that pumps a minimum of 1,800 GPH to handle heavy rainfall or flooding.

Selecting a quality unit is crucial, as performance and price vary widely. A properly sized battery backup ensures your basement remains protected, even during power failures or extreme weather events.
